We left Atlanta, GA at about 530 pm on Friday and did not walk through the door of our apartment until 730 pmon Saturday. Needless to say this has been a long day of traveling, but honestly not as long as I had expected. Both the 8 hour flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam and 8 hour flight from Amsterdam to Kigali were very smooth and went by quickly. The ability to watch an unlimited amount of movies on the screen in front of you makes the trip even easier.
Alfred, one of the third year residents, was at the airport when we arrived in Kigali. He had arranged for a friend of his, Bernadine, to drive us and all of our stuff (which is quite extensive) back to the apartment. It was dark when we arrived in Kigali, but the streets were filled with people and as Alfred said “they will be out all night”. For myself, who has never been to a third world country, it is definitely a little bit of a culture shock. That being said, I am really looking forward to exploring the country and doing something that I have never done before.
I have included a couple pictures of the apartment in order to give people an idea of where I will be staying for the next month!!
